Meteorites are fragments of extraterrestrial matter that impact Earth. Named after the closest city or geological feature to which they're "delivered," meteorites originate from asteroids, comets, the Moon and Mars. Meteorites are extremely rare—the weight of all meteorites known to exist weigh less than the annual output of gold. 99.9% of all meteorites are nondescript. Here are some rather extraordinary exceptions.
